xTrack WMS as web-based application

Axes Software » xTrack WMS as web-based application

The Axes Software team has developed the web-based version of the xTrack WMS application by converting the original desktop architecture of the system within the project “Innovative platform for artificial intelligence management of work processes in factories and warehouses“.

The transformation of the xTrack WMS software solution into a web application is accompanied by a number of benefits that we will present below. To begin with, we should briefly explain what this application is.

What is xTrack WMS?

xTrack WMS is a Warehouse Management System (WMS), which companies use to manage the daily activities, from the moment the goods are unloaded and received till the moment they are sent to customers.

The application ensures an efficient control of all warehouse activities by digitizing data flows and streamlining work processes. Data is collected with various mobile computers, from the moment goods enter the warehouse until they are loaded onto delivery vehicles. The collected information is centralized, processed automatically and used in real time to help optimize warehouse operations, such as picking, tracking available stock (inventory) and determining replenishment needs (needed quantities).

What are the benefits of implementing an xTrack WMS?

Implementing an xTrack WMS solution in your warehouse, regardless of the version: (desktop-based or web-based),  brings numerous benefits as the use of the system allows:

In addition to these benefits, there are other benefits associated with the web-based version of xTrack WMS. To understand what these are, we need to start by answering the question:

What differentiates desktop-based and web-based applications?

Desktop-based software applications are programs that are installed individually on computers. These applications and, in some cases, the data generated during their use are stored in the memory of the computers on which they are installed.

Web-based software applications are programs that are accessed through a link, using a local network connection and, often, with access to the Internet, through a web browser such as Google Chrome, Mozilla, Internet Explorer/Edge, etc., the related web pages being the user interface.

Benefits of the web-based version of xTrack WMS

Starting from the basic features of web-based software programs, we can easily identify the benefits associated with the new xTrack WMS version. These highlight a further simplification of the way the application is used.

There is no need to install the xTrack WMS application.

Like any web-based application, the new xTrack WMS version does not require installation on your computer. The users simply logs in to the application via a web browser that they normally use or choose for this purpose.  While the desktop version requires certain operating system and hardware requirements to be met, the web-based version offers complete freedom in this respect. It runs without being restricted by the operating system (which can be not only Windows, but also Apple, OS, Linux, etc.).

Also, the resources needed to run the application on a computer or any other mobile device (storage space, memory) are reduced. The resources of the server xTrack WMS communicates with are used to a larger extent.

The xTrack WMS app can be accessed from any device.

The web-based version allows the application to be used on any device, preferred by or available to users. Thus, one part of the user team can opt for computers with Windows or Mac operating systems, while the other can turn to various Android mobile devices (tablet, smartphone, smart TV) without any difficulty.  In short, access to xTrack WMS is not dependent on the type of device the user utilizes to connect, and the application runs in the same way on any device, regardless of the operating system.

The web-based version of xTrack WMS requires no maintenance.

With the new web-based version of xTrack WMS, updates are made directly on the server and sent to all of the application users. This means they will automatically use the updated version when they access the online application. Furthermore, by having the same team using the same version, any compatibility issues are eliminated.

Things are quite different when it comes to the desktop version: every time a computer is replaced, or another operating system is installed or the existing operating system is reinstalled, the application has to be installed or reinstalled. In the case of an upgrade, the desktop application must be updated separately on each computer.

The web-based version of the xTrack WMS application gives you the opportunity to use any device to access up-to-date information quickly, anywhere, as long as there is an internet connection. In addition, it has a user-friendly interface and it is easy to use, so it does not require extensive staff training. Every new employee can learn to use the application in a short period of time.

Web-based WMS applications are increasingly being adopted by logistics companies because they enable them to streamline their operations, reduce costs and increase employee productivity.
